Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 27, 2026
Introduction
A Game of Golf is owned and operated by Rampant Strategy, LLC (“Rampant Strategy”, “we” or “us”). This policy explains what the Game collects, why, who else handles it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Rampant Strategy is responsible for your information (its “controller”, in the words of European law). You can reach us at support@agameofgolf.com, or at 131 Continental Dr, Suite 305, Newark, DE 19713, United States.
It applies to the game at play.agameofgolf.com, this website at www.agameofgolf.com, and any other version of the game we provide (together, “the Game”). The Game links to other sites, such as Reddit; their own privacy policies apply there.
What We Collect
Your account
- Your email address, to sign you in and to write to you about your account.
- Your player name, the color you choose, and your golfer and how you dress them (they needn’t look like you).
- Whether your account is free or owns the game, and, once there’s a shop, what you’ve bought and when.
- When your account was created.
- Which version of the Terms of Use you agreed to and of this policy you read, and when; whether you asked for news by email, and when.
Signing in
- The latest code we emailed you, stored scrambled (hashed), with the address it went to and when. It works once, for 10 minutes, and is deleted when you sign in, or after a day if you don’t, so if you start signing up and don’t finish, your email address is gone within a day.
- Your sessions: a scrambled token, when it started and was last used, and your browser’s description (its “user agent”).
Your golf data
- The rounds you play with friends: who played, and every shot as it was played.
- Each round of golf you finish (not practice on the range or the green): the course, the format, every hole as played, your scorecard and your stats.
- Your favorite courses, your star ratings, and the scorecards you share.
Friends
- The friend requests you send (the email address you asked) and your friends. A request to an address with no account is deleted after a month.
- Whether you’re in the game and in a round, while you are, for your friends’ dots.
How the Game runs on your device
- While you play signed in, the Game sends reports linked to your account: how well it is running (frame rates and the time its work takes, memory use, the graphics settings and resolution, your screen’s size and refresh rate, your browser’s description, your graphics chip’s maker and type, how long the Game has been open, errors) and how you play (the course, each swing, cancelled ones too, each shot and putt and where it finished, drops and mulligans, and when you switch away from the Game and back). We use them to make the Game run well on more devices and play well for everyone, and we look at a player’s own reports to help when something isn’t working for them.
Our host’s logs
- Cloudflare, which hosts the Game, logs requests to our servers, which can include IP addresses. We use these logs to keep the Game secure and to fix problems.
On your device
- One cookie, which keeps you signed in.
- In your browser’s storage: your settings (volume, keys, graphics, the last round and practice you set up), copies of your color, golfer, favorites and ratings so the Game works without our servers, and a few notes the Game keeps for itself, such as when it last updated.
- This website and shared scorecards set no cookies.
The bot check
- When you ask for a sign-in code, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you are a person. It looks at your browser and connection to tell people from bots, not to identify you or for advertising; Cloudflare’s Turnstile privacy policy covers it.
What we don’t collect
- We never ask for your real name, and there are no passwords.
- We don’t collect payment details: Stripe processes payments for us.
- The Game has no advertising and no third-party trackers or analytics.
How We Use It
- To run the Game: signing you in, rounds with friends, your scorecards and stats, the courses your account may play.
- To fix the Game and make it better.
- To keep the Game secure and to prevent fraud and abuse.
- To email you sign-in codes and important news about your account, such as a change to our terms.
- To send you news about the Game only if you asked for it. Every news email has a link to stop them.
- To answer you when you write to us.
European law asks us to say what each use rests on:
- Running the Game, the emails about your account, and answering you rest on our agreement with you, the Terms of Use.
- Fixing and improving the Game (the reports from your devices) and keeping it secure rest on our legitimate interest in a game that works, and works safely, for the people who play it. You may object to these uses at any time (see Your Rights).
- Keeping a friend request for someone who hasn’t joined rests on our legitimate interest in letting players find each other; it is deleted after a month.
- News by email rests on your consent, which you may withdraw at any time with the link in any news email.
- Answering lawful requests from authorities rests on the law.
You need an email address to have an account; everything else comes from playing.
Who Sees It
- Other players. The players in your rounds see your player name, color, golfer, scores and stats, and watch you play; anyone who opens a scorecard one of you shares sees your player name, scores and stats. Your friends see your player name and whether you’re free, playing or offline. Once there are course packs to buy, the year of the newest one you own is shown after your player name, in rounds and on the Friends screen.
- Everyone. Your rounds and star ratings count toward each course’s totals in the course browser (rounds played, average stars), shown without names.
- People you send friend requests to. They see your player name and email address, so they know who’s asking.
- Cloudflare hosts the Game, its database and its email, and runs the bot check, on our behalf.
- Stripe processes payments for us, and receives what a payment needs, such as your email address and payment details.
- Authorities, when we are required to answer a lawful request from police, courts or other public authorities, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements.
- Security. We may share what is needed to investigate or prevent security threats, fraud or other malicious activity.
- A new owner. If the Game moves to another company, your information goes with it, under this policy.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising.
How Long We Keep It
- Your account, your golf data and the Game’s reports from your devices: until you delete your account, or until we delete a free account unused for two years (after sending you an email a month before).
- A round with friends, on its own server: until a month after it ends. The finished round stays with each player’s account.
- Sessions: until you sign out, or 400 days after you last opened the Game.
- A friend request: until it is accepted or deleted; one to an address with no account, a month.
- A sign-in code and the address it went to: until you sign in, or a day.
- Our logs at Cloudflare: a week. Cloudflare keeps some records of its own about traffic, under its privacy policy.
- Backups of our database: 30 days, so anything deleted is gone from them within 30 days.
Deleting Your Account
Write to support@agameofgolf.com and we will confirm by writing to your account’s email address, then delete your account and everything kept with it within a month; it is gone from our backups 30 days after that. Deleting an account can’t be undone. Links to scorecards you shared stop working. Your row goes from the scorecards of rounds you played with friends too. Your rounds and stars stay in the courses’ totals, which have no names.
Your Rights
Wherever you live, you may ask us, free of charge:
- for a copy of your information, in a form you can take elsewhere;
- to correct it, or to delete it (see Deleting Your Account);
- to restrict how we use it, or to object to a use that rests on our legitimate interest, such as the reports from your devices;
- to stop news by email at any time (the link in any news email does it at once).
Write to support@agameofgolf.com. We confirm a request by writing to your account’s email address, and answer within a month.
Residents of certain US states (including California, Virginia, Colorado and Connecticut) have these rights in law too, and the right to opt out of the sale of their information. We do not sell personal information.
If you think we have mishandled your information, please tell us first. You may also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
Where It Is Kept
Our database is in the United States. Cloudflare runs the Game in its data centers around the world, usually the one nearest you, and a round with friends may be kept in one near its players. Stripe, which processes payments, handles a buyer’s details in the United States. Both are certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, with its UK and Swiss extensions, and their data processing terms with us include the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses, which protect your information when it leaves Europe.
Children
The Game is not for children under 13, or under the age the law where they live sets for agreeing to our terms without a parent’s consent, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If we learn a child has an account, we delete it. A child may play on a grown-up’s account on the grown-up’s device (Terms of Use, section 2.2); what the Game records while they play belongs to the grown-up’s account and says nothing about the child.
Security
The Game is served only over encrypted connections, and its database is encrypted where it is stored. Only we, and Cloudflare as our host, can reach it; our access is through a Cloudflare account protected by two-factor sign-in. There are no passwords to steal, and sign-in codes and sessions are stored scrambled. Email is not a secure way to communicate, so please don’t send us sensitive information by email.
Data Breach Notification
If a breach compromises your personal information, we will tell you by email without undue delay (or on this website, if we can’t reach everyone by email): what happened, what information was affected, what we have done about it, and what you can do to protect yourself. We will also report it to the data protection authorities the law requires.
Changes to This Policy
We may change this policy. A change that significantly affects your information (a new kind of information, a new use of it, or a new company it goes to) is shown to you in the Game or sent by email before it takes effect. If a new use would need your consent, we ask for it on its own, and you may say no. Smaller changes, such as a correction or a new contact address, are posted here with a new effective date.
Questions and Complaints
Write to support@agameofgolf.com with any question or complaint about this policy or your information. You may also complain to a data protection authority (see Your Rights).
